Le Mont Saint Michel

I signed up to go on this trip provided by the International office here in Rennes months again as I thought it would be a great way to meet new people in my first week here and today was the day we went. I have been to the Mont St. Michel before but that was a long time ago and also its so beautiful I just wanted to see it again.

With the sun shining we boarded our tour buses which had an air of school tour about it and set off on the journey. It only took around an hour and a half to get there and when we did the views were just as stunning as I had remembered. First built in 709 as a sanctuary it has grown and been built up since and now it is not only a place of pilgrimage but also a tourist attraction as it is known as ‘The Wonder of the Western World’ and I can see why. As you walk the many steps to the abbey you can’t but be amazed at the sheer beauty of this island. The stone houses and little cobble streets help to bring the character of the island alive and you can’t help but wonder who has walked the streets before you.

It was nice to take some time out to explore this wonderful place as it has been very busy moving to a new country and trying to get settled in. The scenery and views were incredible (hence the large amount of photos) and I got to spend the day with some great people. It really was an wonderful day and a great way to start my adventure here in Rennes.
